Generic Codes are predictable forms used to create a certain message or impression. For instance, In rap videos, jewellery is a code.
Conventions is the typical thing to do. This produces familiarity. For instance, Rap videos tend to be performance based which is the conventional style.
Why is genre important?
Genre is important because it defines the artists or the music and gives it an identity, it also helps meet audience needs and expectations.
What are the drawbacks of genre?
Over relevant stereotypes. For instance, someone who listens to rap would be stereotyped to be violent. By following the codes and conventions it makes music videos look standard and obvious.

Hybrid Genre, is a mixture of two or more genres, it can reach a much wider audiences. E.g Shaun of the Dead is a Horror and a Comedy so therefore it had the potential to reach the target audience of horror and the target audience of comedy.
